Technical Glass
IRD Glass manufactures many different sizes and shapes of ultra-precise non-optical components using a variety of equipment, including Swiss Turning machines, CNC mills, saws, dicing machines, and waterjets. Our capabilities allow us to hold precise dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
These precision components include pedestal mounts and precision tubes for the sensor industry, ring-laser gyro blocks for the defense and aerospace industries, and precision tooling and fixturing for multiple OEM manufacturing industries.
Materials & Coatings
They have also provided custom-designed thin-film metalization on tubes for this industry, along with precision rods used primarily as tooling, spacers or masks in many diverse applications.
IRD Glass currently manufactures many different sizes and shapes of technical glass components – optical and non-optical – for use as tubes, pedestals, and other applications. Our vast selection of advanced glass and ceramic materials and thin-film coating options ensure that our technical glass components match the thermal expansion and durability requirements of the desired application.
Technical Glass Components
Precision Glass Sensor Mounts
With a face flatness spec of .000004” and an edge chip tolerance of .004”, IRD is still able to manufacture these parts in production quantities in the hundreds of thousands annually.
Gyro Blocks
Essential for the defense and aerospace industry. Their ability to withstand harsh elements—both high altitudes and severe surface conditions—make them ideal for use in guidance systems.
Pressure Sensors And Transducers
IRD Glass produces hundreds of thousands of pressure sensor pedestals for Honeywell, each with an exacting set of tolerances. Flatness and chip specs are a priority with these parts.

Precision Tubes
Crucial for air speed indicators and altimeters used in aerospace as well as cutting edge medical devices. We manufacture precision tubes in volumes approaching ½ million per year, controlled to tight length tolerances, polished on the ends to better than .000004″ flat, fire polished, and maintaining a very tight scratch and dig tolerance.
